Electronic Gaming Monthly April 2008 (Lite Version)
PDF | English | 16 MB

Electronic Gaming Monthly (often abbreviated to EGM) is an American video game magazine. It is published by Ziff-Davis as part of the 1UP Network and releases 12 issues a year (and an occasional extra "13th" issue for the Christmas season, also known as the "Smarch" issue, a reference to an episode of The Simpsons). EGM concentrates on news regarding current video game consoles (see magazine content for detailed information). The December 2006 issue introduces new sections, expanded reviews, and focuses more on the acronym of the magazine's title in a redesign. This is the first issue redesign since June 2003. EGM has said that the reason for the design shift is to keep more in line with the site layout of their website, 1up.com.

Morgan Kaufmann | 2002-09-09 | ISBN: 1558606777 | PDF | 592 pages | 27 Mb

Advanced SQL:1999 - Understanding Object-Relational and Other Advanced Features is the practitioner's handbook to the standard's advanced features. It is not a re-presentation of the standard, but rather an authoritative, in-depth guide to its practical application. Like its companion, SQL:1999 - Understanding Relational Language Components, which explained the standard's basic features, this book will show you how to make your applications both effective and standard-compliant.

This handy reference has a modular format so you can explore specific topics with ease. It is equally useful to those upgrading from earlier versions of SQL and those with no previous experience. Written by the standard's distinguished editor, Advanced SQL:1999 will complete your knowledge and support your skills like no other book can.

* Focuses entirely on the issues that matter to programmers who are connecting applications to databases.
* Details SQL:1999's object facilities, including structured user-defined types, typed tables, user-defined routines, and routine invocation.
* Examines facilities new to SQL, including those relating to on-line analytical processing (OLAP), management of external data (SQL/MED), and Java support.
* Covers the ongoing development of XML support.
* Includes appendices that cover the SQL:1999 annexes, a SQL:1999 example using UDTs, status codes, and useful information on the standardization process.

Group Theory Birdtracks, Lie’s, and Exceptional Groups

Predrag Cvitanović “Group Theory Birdtracks, Lie’s, and Exceptional Groups "
Princeton University Press | 2008 | PDF | 285 pages | 2,8 Mb

Classical Lie groups preserve bilinear vector norms —what Lie groups preserve trilinear, quadrilinear, and higher order invariants? Answering this question from a fresh and original perspective, Predrag Cvitanović takes the reader on the amazing, four thousand-diagram journey through the theory of Lie groups. This book is the first to systematically develop, explain, and apply diagrammatic projection operators to construct all semi-simple Lie algebras, both classical and exceptional. The invariant tensors are presented in a somewhat unconventional, but in recent years widely used, “birdtracks” notation inspired by the Feynman diagrams of quantum field theory. Notably, invariant tensor diagrams replace algebraic reasoning in carrying out all group-theoretic computations. The diagrammatic approach is particularly effective in evaluating complicated coefficients and group weights, and revealing symmetries hidden by conventional algebraic or index notations.

The book covers most topics needed in applications from this new perspective: permutations, Young projections operators, spinorial representations, Casimir operators, and Dynkin indices. Beyond this well-traveled territory, more exotic vistas open up, such as “negative dimensional” relations between various groups and their representations. The most intriguing result of classifying primitive invariants is the emergence of all exceptional Lie groups in a single family, and the attendant pattern of exceptional and classical Lie groups, the so-called Magic Triangle. Written in a lively and personable style, the book is aimed at researchers and graduate students in theoretical physics and mathematics

Playboy's College Girls - January February 2008
PDF | English | 5.44 Mb

The models featured in this series are usually selected from the student population of American colleges and universities. At first, the magazine was published only in the fall to roughly coincide with the beginning of the school year. Each year, the magazine includes a feature on students of an athletic conference, usually from a BCS conference. For instance, the 1997 issue (pictured) featured the Big 12 but also students from other schools. The 2006 issue caused some controversy at Baylor University, which has a religious affiliation. Baylor declared that associating with the magazine would be a violation of the school's code of conduct.

Alan Shrugged: Alan Greenspan, the World's Most Powerful Banker

Jerome Tuccille “Alan Shrugged: Alan Greenspan, the World's Most Powerful Banker"
Wiley | 2007-11-30 | ISBN: 047139906X | PDF | 302 pages | 1,1 Mb

Power . . . Personality . . . Paradox

When Alan Greenspan talks, Wall Street listens-as do bankers, investors, politicians, and economists throughout the world. He is the number one arbiter of U.S. monetary policy-credited, as Chairman of the Federal Reserve, with having simultaneously held inflation down and kept the economy growing throughout the longest and largest economic expansion in U.S. history.

Yet, this Atlas of number crunchers, who owned and operated a highly successful Wall Street consulting firm, never amassed a personal fortune, was a member of the cultlike inner circle surrounding one of America's most controversial authors, and began his career as a professional jazz musician. Clearly, there is even more to Alan Greenspan than meets the eye.

In Alan Shrugged, you'll meet Greenspan the public figure and Alan the private man in the most detailed, revealing, and entertaining account of Greenspan's life and career ever published. Filled with surprises, amusing anecdotes from the likes of Henry Kissinger and Barbara Walters, and thoughtful insights from bestselling biographer Jerome Tuccille, Alan Shrugged offers an informative and engaging portrait of one of the most powerful, capable, and complex figures on the American political scene.

The Discovery of Spoken Language

Peter W. Jusczyk “The Discovery of Spoken Language (Language, Speech, and Communication)"
The MIT Press | 2000-07-31 | ISBN: 0262600366 | PDF | 326 pages | 1,4 Mb

The Discovery of Spoken Language marks one of the first efforts to integrate the field of infant speech perception research into the general study of language acquisition. It fills in a key part of the acquisition story by providing an extensive review of research on the acquisition of language during the first year of life, focusing primarily on how normally developing infants learn the organization of native language sound patterns.

Peter Jusczyk examines the initial capacities that infants possess for discriminating and categorizing speech sounds and how these capacities evolve as infants gain experience with native language input. Jusczyk also looks at how infants' growing knowledge of native language sound patterns may facilitate the acquisition of other aspects of language organization and discusses the relationship between the learner's developing capacities for perceiving and producing speech.

Introduction to Algorithms, Second Edition

Introduction to Algorithms, Second Edition
McGraw-Hill Science/Engineering/Math; 2 edition | ISBN: 0070131511 | 1056 pages | July 16, 2001 | CHM

The updated new edition of the classic Introduction to Algorithms is intended primarily for use in undergraduate or graduate courses in algorithms or data structures. Like the first edition, this text can also be used for self-study by technical professionals since it discusses engineering issues in algorithm design as well as the mathematical aspects.

In its new edition, Introduction to Algorithms continues to provide a comprehensive introduction to the modern study of algorithms. The revision has been updated to reflect changes in the years since the book's original publication. New chapters on the role of algorithms in computing and on probabilistic analysis and randomized algorithms have been included. Sections throughout the book have been rewritten for increased clarity, and material has been added wherever a fuller explanation has seemed useful or new information warrants expanded coverage.

As in the classic first edition, this new edition of Introduction to Algorithms presents a rich variety of algorithms and covers them in considerable depth while making their design and analysis accessible to all levels of readers. Further, the algorithms are presented in pseudocode to make the book easily accessible to students from all programming language backgrounds.

Each chapter presents an algorithm, a design technique, an application area, or a related topic. The chapters are not dependent on one another, so the instructor can organize his or her use of the book in the way that best suits the course's needs. Additionally, the new edition offers a 25% increase over the first edition in the number of problems, giving the book 155 problems and over 900 exercises that reinforce the concepts the students are learning.

Fundamentalism: A Very Short Introduction

Malise Ruthven “Fundamentalism: A Very Short Introduction "
Oxford University Press, USA (February 8, 2007) | ISBN: 0199212708 | PDF | 176 pages | 2,5 Mb

surrounding this complex phenomenon - one that eludes sim today, a conclusion impossible to ignore since the events in New York on September 11 2001. But what does 'fundamentalism' really mean? Since it was coined by American Protestant evangelicals in the 1920s, the use of the term 'fundamentalist' has expanded to include a diverse range of radical conservatives and ideological purists, not all religious. Fundamentalism could now mean both militant Israeli settlers as well as the Islamist radicals who oppose them, it can mean Christians, Hindus, animal liberationists, and even Buddhist nationalists. Ruthven investigates fundamentalism's historical, social, religious, political, and ideological roots, and tackles the polemic and stereotypes surrounding this complex phenomenon - one that eludes simple definition, yet urgently needs to be understood.

Reviews:

`Stimulating.' Roger Hardy, New Statesman
`Review from previous edition 'Ruthven's careful analysis of the phenomena ... provides a much-needed mental map [from] one of today's most perceptive observers and historians of religion.'' Guardian
`'...powerful stuff ... this book is perceptive and important.'' Observer
`This is a gentle, civilised book, written with some style. I enjoyed reading it.' Sasthi Brata, Spectator 10/04/2004
`The first clear definition of this indispensable yet misused term.' Anoush Ehteshami, University of Durham
`... an important contribution to the current political and cultural debates about Islam and the West, religious extremism, and the changing identity of supposedly secular societies.' R. Scott Appleby, University of Notre Dame

The Book of Secrets (1998)

"The Book of Secrets"
O'Reilly | ISBN: 0312180586 | 1998 | PDF | 1152 pages | 6.9 MB

"These techniques will not mention any religious ritual. No temple is needed, you are quite enough of a temple yourself. You are the lab; the whole experiment is to go on within you. This is not religion, this is science. No belief is needed. Only a daringness to experiment is enough; courage to experiment is enough.

These 112 methods are for the whole of humanity-for all the ages that have passed, and for all the ages that have yet to come. I will go on describing each method from as many angles as possible. If you feel any affinity with it, play with it for three days. If you feel that it fits, that something clicks in you, continue it for three months.
Life is a miracle. If you have not known its mystery, that only shows that you do not know the technique for how to approach it." --Osho

In this comprehensive and practical guide, the secrets of the ancient science of Tantra become available to a contemporary audience for the first time. Confined to small, hidden mystery schools for centuries, and often misunderstood and misinterpreted today. Tantra is not just a collection of techniques to enhance sexual experience. As Osho shows in these pages, it is a complete science of self-realizatoin, based on the cumulative wisdom of centuries of exploration into the meaning of life and consciousness. Tantra-the very word means "technique"-is a set of powerful, transformative tools that can be used to bring new meaning andjoy to every aspect of our daily lives.
